Oversocialisation

1 min read

I feel like cities result in over-socialisation for a lot of people. I've noticed that dogs that spend most of their lives in public spaces like restaurants become quite indifferent to people, and living in a city I feel the same thing can happen to people.

A good example might be that the busier the city, the more people are inclined to ignore each other in close proximity, for example on busses and trains. There is also a kind of unkindness in the idea that people can be rude to each other safe in the knowledge they will never see them again.

This seems like a shame, since the result appears to be that smaller towns have far more tight knit communities than larger ones, which arguably need community far more.
